Portrait Photography

Self- Portrait -

Professional Portait-

Formal- This portrait is formal because the subject doesn't have much emotion to their face and the background is very simple, and the only prop in the photo is the American flag that's almost out of the portrait.

Informal- This photo is informal because the subject is very causal. The portrait is average and looks like it took no time to plan or take. The subject isn't really dressed fancy; he's dressed in everyday, walking the street clothes which makes the portrait informal.

Environmental- This photo is environmental because the background is the outdoors and it's very peaceful.

  • To me a good portrait is when the photo is focused up close on the subject with a very casual background. A good portrait looks good to me when the subject has very little emotional expressed on their face or body; the subject makes you wonder what they're thinking. I would also say a good portrait is when the photographer tries to show something unique about the subject, whether it's what they like to do or something special about them like a talent. A portrait is also good when it's unique and not following the trend of other people;  the photographer can follow the trends but maybe they can put their own spin on it so it's a little unique.
  • When I do my own portrait, I would want to capture my subject in action doing something. I'd want to show my subject's personality so viewers can get to know the subject.
